It’s important to keep your teeth clean when you receive braces, and our team is here to help you take proper care of your smile. While cleaning around your braces may require you to adjust your tooth brushing habits, this can be done by altering the angle at which you hold your toothbrush. Our team offers a few tips on how to clean braces and maintain your oral health during orthodontic treatment.

It’s important to maintain your routine dental exams and cleanings with the dentist, as well as thoroughly cleaning your orthodontic retainer every week and visiting the orthodontist as often as advised. Below are three steps to achieve a proper tooth cleaning during braces treatment:

1. Before reaching for your toothbrush, rinse any loose debris from your braces by swishing water around your mouth.

2. Brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day and floss daily to ensure every part of your smile, even the hard-to-reach areas, is fully clean. Every three months, replace your toothbrush to prevent worn bristles from affecting your dental hygiene and causing complications with your orthodontic progress.

3. Brush your gum line with your toothbrush held at 45 degrees to effectively clean the area, and clean the tooth enamel above and below the brackets to protect them from tooth decay.
